Propanedioic acid, dipropyl-, dimethyl ester - Introduction
Heptane-4,4-dicarboxylic acid dimer (Heptane-4), also called HDPE-DME or HDPE-Me, is an organic compound. Its molecular formula is C14H26O4, structural formula is (CH3OOC(CH2)4COOCH3)2.
Nature:
1. Appearance: colorless oily liquid.
2. Melting Point: About -70 ℃.
3. Boiling point: about 361 ℃.
4. Density: about 0.957 g/cm.
5. Solubility: Soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether and ketone.
Use:
1. HDPE-DME as a softener is widely used in polymers (such as polyethylene, polypropylene) to increase its softness and toughness.
2. It can also be used as a solvent for industrial applications such as coatings and inks.
Method:
HDPE-DME is usually synthesized by reacting HDPE (high-density polyethylene) with methanol in a reactor. The reaction process requires certain temperature and pressure conditions and uses a catalyst, such as sulfuric acid.
Safety Information:
1. HDPE-DME has low toxicity, but still belongs to chemicals, should avoid ingestion and skin contact.
2. In use, should wear appropriate protective gloves and glasses.
3. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention if necessary.
